5 Fintech 2026: E-Wallets Cross 90% Adoption Advancements in technology have fundamentally restructured the financial industry. Because fintech is redefining standard financial operations, monitoring key trends is essential for strategic decision-making. Jakpat conducted a nationwide survey of 1920 respondents to explore their habits and usage surrounding fintech trends. The findings are presented in a three-part report series, with this first edition focusing on key trends in digital payments, e-wallets, and digital banking for 2026. A majority of respondents use e-wallet applications (94%), followed by paylater (34%) and online cash loans (9%). Meanwhile, 49% of respondents were recorded using banking services for digital payments, with 89% of them using mobile/internet banking and 53% utilizing digital banking. Digital Payment Methods for Transactions Jakpat examined three specific digital payment methods. The results show that 83% of respondents use e-wallets and 49% use digital banking. A total of 23% use paylater, including options integrated within e-wallets. Digital wallets (e-wallets) dominate both online and offline shopping channels, with adoption rates reaching nearly 90% across all demographic groups. By age, Millennials lead the adoption of alternative payment methods for online shopping, reaching 67% for digital banking services and 33% for paylater. When examined by income level, platform banking usage drops sharply from 71% among high-income consumers to just 39% among low-income online shoppers. “Throughout 2026, digital payments in Indonesia have shown positive growth and increasingly widespread usage. This condition is evident from the expanding role of mobile payments such as e-wallets and digital banking in daily transactions. This environment has transformed digital payments into a fundamental infrastructure for economic transactions, rather than just an additional feature,” said Jakpat’s Head of Research, Aska Primardi. Consequently, he added, competition between digital payment platforms will intensify. “This is marked by a shift in added value, moving beyond simple convenience in payment processing toward other values such as loyalty & rewards, seamless experience, merchant coverage, and security issues,” Aska explained. E-Wallet Trends & Platform Banking There are various reasons for using e-wallets. Easy payment methods (63%) and user-friendly applications (62%) serve as the primary considerations for respondents. These two factors far outweigh other motivations like promotions, which stood at just 24%. Interestingly, men prefer user-friendly applications (63%), whereas women prioritize payment convenience (64%). By age group, Gen X shows the highest preference for easy payment methods at 73%, outperforming Millennials (66%) and Gen Z (55%). The Jakpat survey also revealed that efficiency and convenience are the primary drivers of digital banking adoption, with time-saving benefits (79%) and ease of financial management (71%) cited as the top triggers. By age, Gen Z prioritizes financial management convenience (76%), while Gen X and Millennials value time efficiency most (81%). By gender, women consistently consider operational practicality more important than men do, particularly regarding financial management and time efficiency. Download Report
