38 Did you ever want to have a good food but too lazy to go out? Well, I did. I guess it also happened to the people out there, and perhaps even you do too. Most of the time, food delivery service become the quick and smart solution to overcome this problem. No matter what kind of reason you were having (be it too busy or too lazy), food delivery service still become the ultimate choice. Understanding this phenomenon, Jakpat just did a survey to our panel of respondents. We surveyed 300 respondents from ten big cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan, North Sumatera, South Sumatera, South Sulawesi, and Bali. Our respondents consist of 48% male and 52% female in the age of 16-35 years old.As we previously explained, there is several reason of using food delivery service. We ask our respondents about their reason of delivery and most of them consider food delivery service as more practical. Moreover, the lack of free times also becomes the reason of choosing this service. Our respondents acknowledge that they choose to have delivery service since they do not have any spare times to go to the restaurant and cook. Concerning respondents’ lack of time to cook or going to the restaurant, we ask them about their favourite time to order food delivery service. Most respondents answer that they would like to order foods for dinner at the first place and for lunch at the second place. Surprisingly, most respondents tend to order food delivery service on weekend. Relating this finding to our previous data about respondents’ lack of time, it could be assumed that respondents are more likely to have some rest at the weekend and spoiling themselves with good food without worry of spending their times to cook or go to the restaurants. Regarding the destination of delivering, most respondents’ answer that they are more likely to deliver their food to home. Office becomes the second choice of destination. Today food delivery service is not only be served by restaurant, but also from some public vendors such as Makandiantar, Klik-eat, Foodpanda, or Kulineran who serve food delivery service from various restaurants. We ask our respondent s about their preference of delivery channel. 80% of our respondents acknowledge that they are more like to order foods from restaurants’ own delivery service than public food delivery vendors. Understanding that our respondents are more likely to directly order food delivery service from restaurants instead of public vendor, then it becomes very important to understand their preference of communication channel in contacting the restaurants. Most of our respondents answer that they are more likely to call restaurants’ delivery phone number to order their foods. Therefore, it becomes very reasonable when restaurants are trying to create their “unique” hotline or phone number so that consumer can remember it easily. Besides calling the restaurants, our respondents also would like to do online order in restaurants’ website and applications. At the last position, respondents would like to contact restaurants’ instant messaging ID to order food delivery service. To completely understand our respondents’ food delivery habit, we also ask about their favourite foods to be delivered. The most favourite is Western food. Indonesian food is considered as the second place. The third is Chinese food. The next place is taken by Japanese food. And the last position is taken by snack. Understanding food delivery habit as part of consumer behaviour study takes selection of the channel as a considerable concept. We ask our respondents about factor affecting their decision in choosing food delivery service. Most of respondents answer that they liking towards the menu become the ultimate reason of choosing which restaurant they will order. Their second consideration is the quickness of delivery service, while the next are restaurant provide online order service and their phone number is easy to be remembered. Although almost our entire respondent considers food delivery as a beneficial service, they also find some difficulties regarding it. However, there are different problems faced by our male and female respondents. 59% of our male respondent find the time and cash payment as their ultimate problems. They find it difficult when the courier does not bring the change for their cash payment. Different problems are faced by our female respondents. 71% of our female respondents find the time and explaining their address to the courier who deliver their food as a tiring process. However, both male and female respondents put the “taking long time to deliver my foods” as the main and most common problem in food delivery service.
