Articles Live Shopping & Affiliate Link: Blurring The Line Between E-Commerce and Entertainment by Jakpat August 23, 2023 written by Jakpat Live Shopping & Affiliate Link: Blurring The Line Between E-Commerce and Entertainment Indonesian consumers are drawn to the effortless purchasing experience provided by e-commerce platforms as the digital landscape develops. The convenience of browsing through an extensive range of goods and making purchases from the comfort of their homes has completely changed the way people buy. Remarkable speed of which purchases are processed and delivered, oftenly exceeds traditional retail timelines, resonates deeply with the fast-paced way modern- Indonesians’ life. Jakpat conducts surveys annually to understand this trend. In the first semester of 2023, Jakpat surveyed 1,485 people on the trends in using e-commerce as a shopping medium. The study was carried out between February and May 2023 to understand people’s behavior when purchasing online, how they use e-commerce, and what marketing tactics work best, used by vendors on the platform as well as e-commerce sites. Jakpat report shows, 88% of online shoppers made purchases during the first semester of 2023. E-wallets or digital wallets are the preferred method of payment when conducting e-commerce transactions, chosen by 72% of respondents who had already made a purchase. Yet it’s not only about convenience and service speed, but also guarantee of sellers’ credibility in maintaining product’s quality, security, and dependable customer service, have built a sense of trust in Indonesian consumers. This is in line with what was conveyed by Aska Primardi, Head of Research of Jakpat, “The convenience, speed, and credibility of sellers makes online shopping activities still attractive to the people of Indonesia. These values seem to be able to replace the discount value, which has apparently started to decline during the past year. This value is currently seen as the majority of e-commerce’s bare minimum service standard.” The Phenomena Called Live Shopping & Affiliate Link Live shopping has emerged as an engaging evolution of the online shopping experience, seamlessly combining the participatory element of social media platforms with the appeal of retail therapy. Jakpat reports, 9 out of 10 online shoppers have visited a live shopping broadcast. Live shopping broadcasts are hosted by brands or influencers that showcase items and interact directly with viewers despite their location. This personal interaction gives customers a direct line of communication to ask questions, get answers, and learn more about products. Passive scrolling seems to have transformed into a social event, thanks to the live format. On the other hand, the combination of social media and live shopping creates a sense of exclusivity and urgency. Responding to this phenomenon, Aska stated, “Consumers seek unique value from their shopping experience, and live shopping is one of the examples. Real-time shopping in limited time, spontaneous interaction with the seller and other shoppers, surprises from the host, and the perception as if they are competing for limited stock, will make a consumer become a loyal shopper.” On the other hand, Jakpat highlights the existence of affiliate links in online shopping. Serves as a powerful conduit between consumers and products, affiliate links promote a mutually beneficial relationship for both shoppers and content creators. These links, which are frequently included in social media posts or review websites, enable influencers or affiliates to recommend particular products to their audience. This symbiotic relationship between e-commerce, sellers, and content creators, promotes honest product endorsements and gives consumers more control over their buying experiences. Jakpat report reveal that 8 out of 10 online shoppers have clicked the affiliate link in social media, and more than half decided to buy from the link. How much do consumers spend in a month for online shopping? Do consumers really visit live shopping and make their purchase? How about the competition among e-commerce? Articles Adapting Consumption Patterns of Mobile Entertainment in Early 2023 by Jakpat August 23, 2023 written by Jakpat Adapting Consumption Patterns of Mobile Entertainment in Early 2023 In our increasingly interconnected world, mobile entertainment and social media have become an integral part of our daily lives. From compelling streaming platforms to the dynamic realm of social networking, these digital arenas have altered the way we consume entertainment and engage with others. Every year, Jakpat conducts a survey in order to understand the public’s perspective on the use of mobile entertainment and social media. In this first semester of 2023, surveys were conducted on 1640 smartphone users and 1646 social media users. Jakpat survey report highlights the use of over-the-top (OTT) streaming platforms such as Vidio, Netflix, or Disney+ Hotstar, as entertainment media that can be accessed by smartphone users. 89% of Gen Z users use OTT streaming platforms to watch movies, 76% to watch series, 23% to watch sports matches, and 21% to watch reality/variety shows. To enjoy OTT streaming platforms’ content, users generally need to pay the subscription fee. 31% of Gen Z users don’t mind paying a subscription fee to be free from annoying ads. Entertainment content is certainly not limited to movies, series and other audio-visual shows. Music has long been an integral part of human culture. Meanwhile, podcasts also get a significant portion in accompanying the daily activities of modern people. Therefore, in this report, Jakpat also highlights the use of audio streaming platforms as a medium of listening to music and podcasts. Unlike the OTT streaming platforms, the majority of users prefer to listen to music for free and don’t mind listening to advertisements. In fact, 27% of paying subscribers pay less than last year for streaming audio platforms. Another form of entertainment that can be accessed from smartphones is social media. The Jakpat report shows that 36% of users access social media so they don’t feel left behind from current news or trends. In addition, of course, social media still plays a role in influencing consumer behavior, through advertisement content and reviews. Instagram is rated by 25% of users as the most informative social media. 34% of users also feel that Instagram is the most suitable social media for finding products, services or catalogues. Shifting Trends of Mobile Entertainment This Jakpat report shows that the trend of using mobile entertainment and social media tends to decrease from the previous year. Aska Primardi, Head of Research of Jakpat emphasized, “Almost all social media have experienced a decrease in the number of users. Like TikTok and Twitter, the numbers are likely to be stagnant from last year. Same thing happened to the OTT streaming platforms. People are still accessing content, but there are indications that they are reducing the number of platforms they use, or choosing to focus on only one of the OTT streaming platforms.” Aska stated that there is also a possibility that this condition is caused by de-influencing trends, where influencers, or in this case de-influencers, give suggestions not to use a product or service. He added, “Jakpat’s research shows that only about 50% of the public currently still trusts reviews from influencers and celebrities.” Another factor Aska came up with, was related to duration. “As the pandemic period ends, the duration for people to be able to access mobile entertainment and social media has indeed decreased in 2023.” Then, how about the performance of the OTT streaming platform and audio streaming platform in the eyes of its users? How do users value social media? Which reviews on social media are the most trustworthy according to users? Articles Generational Differences in Using Digital Financial or Fintech Services by Jakpat August 23, 2023 written by Jakpat Generational Differences in Using Digital Financial or Fintech Services The financial world has witnessed many transformations largely triggered by rapid technological advancements. The intersection between finance and technology has given birth to a dynamic field that we commonly know as Financial Technology or Fintech. Fintech is changing the way individuals and businesses interact with their finances. In the first half of 2023, Jakpat conducted a survey of 1425 respondents in Indonesia regarding the use and habits of respondents in the financial and fintech landscape. The survey, which was later published in the form of a report entitled “Indonesia Fintech Trends 2023”, focuses on several digital financial services such as digital payments, online credit, and investment platforms. In addition, the survey also explored respondents’ financial behavior, insurance, and credit practices. The Use of Digital Financial Services In semester 1 of this year, there were 8 out of 10 respondents who used digital payment platforms to make transactions both offline and online. Some digital payment platforms used include e-wallets or digital wallets, mobile and internet banking including virtual debits, and delayed payments service namely Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) or commonly called paylater. According to Aska Primardi, Head of Research Jakpat, awareness and the number of users of financial products in Indonesia continue to increase from year to year, with the most widely used platform being digital payment. E-wallet is the most widely used service by respondents who claim to use digital payments for transactions. As many as 84% of respondents use e-wallets for various needs such as paying for groceries both offline and online, paying for entertainment needs, to paying monthly bills. Followed by the use of digital or mobile and internet banking with 52%, and paylater for 26%. The use of digital payments is indeed more common among young people, namely Millennials and Gen Z, especially for e-wallets. While digital banks are used by more than half of Millennials and Gen X. Millennials are also the segment most exposed to the use of paylater. Among Millennials who usually use digital payment methods, there are 32% who admit to using paylater services. The most common transactions paid using paylater are online shopping (23%) and paying for food with online delivery orders (18%). Investment and Insurance In addition to reviewing the use of various digital payment services, the report also displays data on the use of other financial products such as investment, insurance, and credit. Of all respondents, there are 38% who pay credit installments every month and 24% of respondents pay insurance premiums. While users of investment products are at 25%. “Users of investment products are at 25%, but after digging deeper, it turns out that not all investment users are users of insurance products. It can be seen that the proportion of Gen Z in the user investment platform segment is 32%, while the proportion of Gen Z in the insurance user segment is 19%. In contrast to Gen X, this segment sees more insurance than investment platforms,” Aska explained. “If we look at the financial pyramid, then the thing that must first be met is a safety net (for example meeting basic needs, emergency funds, insurance), then followed by investment to accumulate and preserve wealth. This is what Gen Z forgets, where they prefer direct investment to achieve financial freedom, without considering financial “security” first. A common reason why Gen Z is more willing to take risks is because they are currently single and unmarried,” Aska added. How exactly does Gen Z view the concept of financial management? Do Millennials share the same view? Download Report Contact Us August 23, 2023 0 comments 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestThreadsBlueskyEmail
