Articles Does The Vegetarian Diet Support Frugal Living? by Jakpat July 28, 2023 written by Jakpat Does The Vegetarian Diet Support Frugal Living? Vegetarianism, or a lifestyle that adopts a diet without consuming animal-based foods, is increasing. In Indonesia alone, more than 2 million people adopt this lifestyle and around 2 thousand restaurants already provide vegetarian food on their menus[1]. Jakpat conducted a survey to find out the perspective of the Indonesian people regarding this trend. The report which involves 1,614 respondents shows how the diet is practiced nowadays, the reasons for adopting a vegetarian lifestyle, what plant-based foods are preferred, and the responses about brands/restaurants that provide vegetarian menus. The survey results stated that 87% of respondents were eaters of everything, both animal and plant-based foods. Then, 11% tried to reduce the intake of animal-based foods and 2% were vegetarians. “In line with the development of health issues such as diabetes, or obesity, to the problem of the quality of meat as a food raw material, the ideas and initiatives are now starting to emerge in the community to reduce meat consumption, increase vegetable consumption, and some even choose to become vegetarians,” said Head of Research Jakpat, Aska Primardi. Living vegetarian for the sake of frugality The general goal of respondents reducing animal-based foods as well as becoming vegetarians is to improve overall health, for example, to reduce the risk of dangerous diseases such as cholesterol, heart disease, or diabetes. There are also respondents who wanted to increase the body’s metabolism and lose weight. Another interesting reason is this lifestyle is considered more frugal (32%). It is proved by one in three respondents that admitted their food expenses decreased after becoming vegetarian. Various changes were felt by respondents who reduced animal-based food or became vegetarian, namely stable weight (51%), increased body metabolism (37%), and better mood (39%). Preparing vegetarian meals There are not many restaurants that provide vegetarian menus in Indonesia. This is in line with the results of the Jakpat survey which stated that the biggest obstacle to being a vegetarian is the difficulty of looking for plant-based foods when eating out. Therefore, it is not surprising that 60% of vegetarian respondents preferred to prepare their meals by cooking at home (59%) or chose non-animal foods in public restaurants (52%). However, respondents supported if there is a restaurant that has vegetarian food on the menu (62%). Most of them considered plant-based foods healthier and good for the body. Both of these products usually contain collagen or vitamin E which is important for the skin. Collagen serves to increase skin hydration and elasticity, also helping to reduce wrinkles. Meanwhile, vitamin E has moisturizing benefits and has natural anti-inflammatory properties, so it can and helps soothe the skin. Jakpat conducted a survey of 4872 respondents to see their concern in maintaining healthy skin, especially with the consumption of beauty drinks and skin supplements, as well as the brands used. The most common healthy habits that respondents do is well-rested (70%) and skin & face cleansing (64%). More specifically, Millennials consider drinking water as the priority rather than cleansing the skin & face. This can be seen from changes in consumer behavior that assess that skin health conditions and appearance are valuable assets, “said Head of Research Jakpat, Aska Primardi. Motivation to consume The Jakpat survey stated that half of respondents consumed beauty drinks and/or skin supplements in the last three months. In details, 56% consumed beauty drinks and 54% consumed skin supplements. “Skincare products from outside the body usually require a longer process, because they are usually divided into several stages ranging from cleansing to moisturizing, and these stages must be done in the order. So it is not surprising that skin care products in the format of drinks and supplements can be increasingly developed today, “said Aska. The top reason consumers continue to consume beauty drinks and/or skin supplements is to maintain their general health (71%). Other motivations are to maintain healthy skin (64%) and solved skin problems such as acne or dry skin (59%). Beauty drinks Most respondents consumed beauty drinks once a day (34%). Then, they also preferred to enjoy this product at night (37%). “Skincare in the form of drinks is considered simpler and easier to do than the use of skincare from outside the body. Articles Music Concert Hype in 2023 by Jakpat July 11, 2023 written by Jakpat Music Concert Hype in 2023 2023 is like a passionate year for music lovers in the world, including Indonesia. After some time hindered by the pandemic, starting around mid 2022, music concerts were again held on a large scale. The return of music concerts in the entertainment world was warmly welcomed by the public, which then led to many music events being held, ranging from local to international musicians. Therefore, Jakpat tried to capture this trend through a survey conducted on more than 2000 respondents in Java, Bali, and several major cities in Indonesia. The results are then summarized in a report entitled Music Concert Trends 2023. Watching a Concert Affects Monthly Expenses Most respondents did claim to have last seen a concert more than 1.5 years ago. However, at the beginning of 2023, there are around 28% of respondents who have attended at least 1 music concert, with an average of having watched 3 events from January to early June 2023. This number has the potential to increase because 39% are interested and have plans to watch a concert in the next 6 months. In fact, 8% claimed to have bought one or more concert tickets.“People’s interest in attending music concerts seems to have increased in the last 1 year, after previously they had to refrain because music concerts could not be held during the pandemic. Welcoming the interest of the community, throughout 2022-2023 there are many music concert events that have been and will run. It’s just that, at the same time the majority of people think that the price of concert tickets is expensive,” as explained by Aska Primardi, Head of Research Jakpat. For example, the ticket prices for the concert of Coldplay, musicians from England, which will take place in November 2023. The majority of respondents who bought tickets for this concert felt that the ticket price was quite expensive, even 13% felt that the price was very expensive. The purchase of concert tickets in 2023 is indeed considered to affect monthly expenses by 8 out of 10 respondents. Moreover, 73% of respondents admitted that they did not have a special allocation for entertainment needs, including buying concert tickets. “This could be due to economic conditions that had declined during the pandemic, so they felt the need to sort out which concert tickets to buy. However, the high interest makes these concertgoers often buy tickets at prices that are considered expensive, which has an impact on their monthly budget,” Aska added. In considering which concert to watch, 66% of respondents take the ticket price into account, similar to 65% deciding which concert to go to based on the musicians. This financial factor is also one of the biggest inhibiting factors why people are reluctant to watch concerts within the next 6 months. “On the one hand, their awareness and interest in the concert is increasing, but not everyone will proceed to the ticket purchase stage because they feel that it has a negative impact on their monthly budget. To further convince potential audiences, unique value points can be considered from the experience that one concert will get, which cannot be obtained from other concerts,” said Aska. Interest in Watching Concerts at the End of 2023 Regardless of the costs that must be incurred, the public seems to be quite excited in welcoming the upcoming concerts. Almost 20% of respondents said they were willing to go out of town to watch music performances. Some are even willing to go abroad for a concert. This interest in going abroad was not only based on their desire to see their favorite musicians in person, but 30% said buying concert tickets abroad was better than buying from calo or ticket tout. Some of the popular upcoming concerts in the second half of the year include Coldplay: The Music of the Spheres World Tour and Jakarta Fair which runs from June to July 2023. Jakarta Fair is also quite a prominent festival, with almost 50% of respondents wanting to attend this event and 27% claiming to have visited it more than once. Besides Jakarta Fair, what are other annual music festivals regularly visited by music fans? And are there differences in concert habits and perceptions among the female, male, Gen Z, and Millennial segments? Articles Financial Product Survey: Paylater as The Most Desirable by Jakpat June 14, 2023 written by Jakpat Financial Product Survey: Paylater as The Most Desirable Each generation has different consumption behavior when it comes to finance. This is due to various factors such as exposure, usage, and attitude to available financial products. Jakpat conducted a survey to find out the perspectives of Generation X, Generation Y (Millennials), and Generation Z in Indonesia related to finance. The report, which involved 602 respondents, shows what types of financial products are used, sources of income, and personas for each generation. The survey results stated that all generations have savings with a percentage of more than 90% for each. The second most widely used financial product is paylater. Meanwhile, the younger generation (Gen Z) claims to have tried investment products such as stocks (27%). “Paylater is one of the most popular financial products for every generation. However, it could be that each generation has different consideration factors before deciding to use paylater, “said Head of Research Jakpat, Aska Primardi. He highlighted the number of paylater users in Gen X (38%) which is more than Gen Z (34%). But at the same time, the number of insurance, mortgage, and credit card users is also more than Millennials and Gen Z. “It could be that Gen X chooses paylater as a short-term financial solution in order to meet their needs, considering that at the same time they also have to allocate budget for other financial products,” said Aska. Meanwhile, the highest number of paylater users is Millennials (44%). “At the same time they also have loans, mortgages, credit cards, and stocks. In addition, they also have dependents, the family, which must be paid for. Paylater can be a solution for all these needs,” said Aska. Sources of income All generations rely on salary as their main source of income, followed by non-formal income such as being a freelancer or owning another business. Gen Z, as predicted, still depends on parental income. As many as 45% of them admitted to making remittances from parents as a source of income. This affects the financial products used by this young generation. “Gen Z uses paylater and at the same time also invests in stocks. Given that the majority of Gen Z’s income is still not optimal, because one of them comes from parents/family, to optimize the amount of stock investment each month, they will buy some of the necessities through the paylater feature. So that their hope to achieve financial freedom in the future can be achieved, and the most important thing now is that they can still fulfill the needs of life and lifestyle,” explained Aska. One in four respondents claimed to have double income. Although not significant, Millennials are the generation that has the most dual income with a percentage of almost 30%. Then, 22% of respondents admitted that they only had income in terms of non-formal. One out of three Generation Xers does this. All generations allocate half of their income to daily needs. Then, as much as 27% of income is saved as savings. 3 Financial personas Jakpat divides financial personas into three types. First, Backwards tend to have little savings and rely on loans. As many as 11% of respondents fall into this category. Then, the Stable category where Generation X dominates with a percentage of almost 38%. These personas tend to ‘play it safe’ where they have savings but little investment. Lastly, Fordward-looking tend to be risk savvy where they have savings and investments. This group is dominated by Gen Z (30%). Download Report Contact Us June 14, 2023 0 comments 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestThreadsBlueskyEmail
