TVC Review: Ramadan 2020 – Jakpat Survey Report

Ramadan is a meaningful month for all Muslims in the world including in Indonesia where the majority of the population is Muslim. However, this time Ramadan feels very different from previous years with the existence of the Covid-19 pandemic which requires people to stay at home and cannot be free to keep in touch with others the way Ramadan should be. Adverts that are usually shown during Ramadan must also adjust to the current situation by adding messages related to COVID-19. Hence, Jakpat conducted research on respondents’ assessment of TVC from several products that have special TVC made for Ramadan edition.

The assessed aspects include Ad awareness, Purchase Intention, Overall Liking, Uniqueness, Believability, Relevancy.

There are a total of 33 advertisements involved in this survey. Ranging from food/beverage product category to the e-commerce category.

April 21st is Kartini’s Day also known as Women’s Emancipation Day where we commemorate Raden Ajeng Kartini, the hero of Indonesian women’s empowerment. In this modern era, the struggle of R.A. Kartini is often associated with gender equality. Gender refers to standards of concepts, values, norms, stereotypes that are actually formed by society itself. As in the household, women are often considered more suitable to work in the domestic area while men are in the public and more worthy of being leaders³. To build a strong family relationship, there needs to be togetherness/harmony between husband and wife in their role in marriage.

Relevant to that matters, Jakpat has conducted a survey to discuss what the ideal or desired roles of a husband and wife in a household and the actual condition that occurs in their household. In addition, there will be discussed the perception of the Indonesian about some of the stereotypes or labels that have been occurring in many communities related to issues in the household.

The hashtag #dirumahaja and #workfromhome which are widely circulating on social media is one of the government’s efforts to reduce the spread of this virus.
