This is the Most Popular Mild Illness Medicine in Indonesia

At certain times, mild illnesses such as cough, flu and fevers often impact individuals’ productivity. There are many ways to cure the disease, both naturally and by taking medication. Jakpat has conducted a survey to 1,175 respondents about their preferences when dealing with mild illnesses.

Regarding what illnesses is the most experienced by respondents, cough and cold is the most suffered, with a percentage of 70%. Followed by headaches (64%) and catch a colds (57%).

When viewed from their generation, Millennials are the generation that feels the most coughs, colds, and headaches; while Gen X is seen catching colds most often. Meanwhile, Gen Z is more likely to experience fever when compared to other generations.

Aska Primadi, Head of Research of Jakpat discussed the perception of catch a colds (masuk angin) from the views of different generations. “The term masuk angin, although not a medical term, is still popular in Indonesia to describe an uncomfortable condition with several symptoms such as flu, fever, headache, and flatulence. However, when compared between generations, the data shows that the percentage of Gen Z who identify themselves as having masuk angin is much lower than Gen X,” he said.

Aska explained, “It is possible that the term “masuk angin” has experienced a shift in meaning for Gen Z compared to the previous generation. So, Gen Z tends to prefer non-medical methods as the first step to recover from cold symptoms. If this method is not effective, they prefer to consult a doctor directly and use prescription medicine instead of over-the-counter or herbal medicine.”

About 60% of respondents choose to rest a lot and eat comfort foods during mild illness. In addition, almost half of them choose to take over-the-counter medicine.

Jakpat also revealed what medicine are most often used by respondents for each disease.

Catch a cold (masuk angin)

3 out of 5 respondents took herbal medicine sachet when they had a cold. When mentioning the brand, 92% of respondents chose Tolak Angin, followed by Antangin with 60% and Bejo Bintang Toedjoe (27%).

E-Commerce Expands Quick-Commerce: SPX Instant Crosses GrabMart and GoMart

E-Commerce Expands Quick-Commerce: SPX Instant Crosses GrabMart and GoMart

E-commerce competition in Indonesia is getting tighter. Several e-commerce companies have begun to expand the market, by providing quick-commerce services. As we know, e-commerce that provides quick-commerce services is no longer new. Innovations in terms of delivery speed continue to emerge.

Jakpat conducted a survey to find out the behavior and habits of Indonesian people who like to shop online in the first semester of 2024. The report, which involved 2255 respondents, also looked at the use of shopping platforms in e-commerce and quick-commerce as well as sales strategies, especially live shopping and affiliate links.

The survey results stated that 91% of respondents made online transactions in the first half of 2024. In detail, 9 out of 10 people admitted to transactions on e-commerce, while 4 out of 5 people made purchases on quick-commerce platforms.

Head of Research of Jakpat, Aska Primadi highlighted the increase in the quick-commerce segment. The number of users that went up was inversely proportional to spending.

“Although the incidence rate of quick-commerce shoppers has increased this year, it turns out that the average spending on shopping in quick-commerce is stagnant or even tends to decrease compared to last year. This could be due to the phenomenon of deflation and a decline in people’s purchasing power in recent months[1],” he said.

Aska added, “This indication of decline can be seen from changes in consumer behavior in shopping, for example preferring online shopping to pursue promos, and also shopping in small quantities but more often. This explains why the trend of shopping in quick-commerce is increasing, and at the same time, consumers often visit malls but do not shop.”

In this report, Jakpat tried to look more specifically at the quick-commerce line by providing e-commerce options to respondents. As a result, SPX Instant is in third place in the top 5 quick-commerce with a percentage of 24%. SPX Instant, which just released its “Instant Delivery 2 Hour Arrival” service in 2024 May, overtook two ride-hailing startups that already had quick-commerce services. GrabMart is in fourth place with a decrease of 1% compared to the first semester of 2023, from 24% to 23%. Meanwhile, GoMart was stable with a percentage of 19%.

Habits in online shopping

Three out of 10 e-commerce users admitted to shopping online between 6 PM and 9 PM. This means that they prefer to shop after a day of activities. In contrast to quick-commerce users, as many as 27% of respondents shop in the morning before noon, from 9 AM to 12 PM.

In terms of payment methods, both e-commerce and quick-commerce users prefer to use digital wallets (e-wallets). Another method that is also preferred is cash on delivery (COD) with a percentage of around 60% for both.

Effectiveness of live shopping & affiliate links

Live shopping and affiliate links are two well-known online marketing strategies. Both offer unique ways to attract customers and increase sales. Nine out of 10 Jakpat respondents admitted that they had watched live shopping and 64% of them made transactions via the feature.

Meanwhile, 81% of online shoppers have opened an affiliate link from social media, and half have decided to buy the product.

Fintech Trends 2024: Paylater Users Rise

The use of financial technology (fintech) applications is becoming more widespread. In addition to functioning as a means of payment, fintech can also be used for various financial activities.

Jakpat conducted a survey to find out the behavior and habits of Indonesia fintech users in the first half of 2024. The report, which involved 2159 respondents, focused on digital payment types, namely e-wallets, banking platforms (mobile/internet and digital), and buy now pay later (BNPL) commonly known as paylater. Other topics discussed are the types of fintech, namely e-wallets, paylater, online loans (pinjol), crowdfunding, and peer-to-peer (P2P) lending.

Digital financial activities

In the first semester of 2024, as many as 93% of respondents made digital payments. In more detail, almost all respondents use e-wallets (97%) as digital payment methods, followed by banking platforms (49%), and paylater (33%). E-wallets are fintech that dominates payments, both directly (offline) and online.

Compared to last semester, or the second half of 2023, the use of digital payments in these three categories has increased. Namely e-wallets by 75%, banking platforms (45%), and paylater (25%).

“We see a significant surge in people’s activities that switch to digital payments. This is due to the increasingly easy use of fintech, where people now prioritize convenience and comfort (user-friendly). This change shows that the public is increasingly open to digital financial technology,” said Jakpat Lead Researcher, Farida Hasna.

Other financial activities that are also carried out, both digitally and conventionally, are saving (34%), paying credit (29%), investing (20%), and insurance (20%).

Use of fintech

In general, there are various considerations in choosing a fintech platform. Some of them are easy payment methods (62%), user-friendly applications (55%), and registered with the Financial Services Authority/OJK (45%).

Almost all respondents use e-wallet applications (96%), followed by paylater (31%) and online loans that provide cash loans (8%). Then, 97% of respondents use mobile/internet banking platforms, and 77% use digital banking platforms.

As many as 69% of respondents admitted to using e-wallets for money transfers. Some use this digital wallet as a means of payment when shopping online (67%) and paying bills (66%). More than 40% of respondents use this application 1-3 times a week.

Regarding credit fintech platforms, 4 out of 5 people stated that they use online loans because the funds are quickly disbursed. In addition, the process is fast (78%), and the requirements are easy (74%) when applying for a loan. Three out of 4 respondents use the loan funds for urgent needs, some use them for daily needs (45%), pay bills (40%), and entertainment needs (17%).

Seeing this, Hasna assessed that pinjol has become one of the multifunctional solutions in managing people’s finances today.

“The majority of people use loans for urgent needs, but not a few, especially Generation Z, use them for tertiary needs such as buying concert tickets. The fast process and easy requirements when registering are also the main pulling factors,” she explained.

More than 80% of respondents stated that they use banking applications, both mobile/internet and/or digital because they save time (87%) and services are available 24 hours a day (82%).

Survey: Examining Sports Habits and Healthy Lifestyle of Gen Z and Millennials in Indonesia

In this digital era, some people prefer to be busy with gadgets rather than physical activity. However, the trend of exercising is on the rise again and people are starting to post their physical activities on social media.

Jakpat surveyed to find out the sports habits and healthy lifestyle applied. The report, which involved 4477 Gen Z and Millennial respondents, shows the location, time, and purpose of exercising; as well as a healthy lifestyle carried out.

In general, 54% of respondents claim walking is a sport they do. In addition, 3 out of 10 Gen Z and Millennials choose running as their daily exercise. Other sports that are also loved are badminton (25%), cycling (23%), and football (17%).

“Gen Z tends to be more active in higher-intensity sports such as running and badminton, compared to Millennials who prefer walking as their main sport. This difference may be due to different lifestyles, health priorities, or psychological factors between the two generations,” said Jakpat Lead Researcher, Farida Hasna.

Home (54%) and sports field (53%) are two favorite spots for exercise. One in 3 people enjoy physical activity in the park. Regarding frequency, one-third of respondents admitted that they exercise once a week. Only 12% do exercise every day. Not only physical but exercise also has a good effect on mental health. Eight out of 10 Gen Z admit that these physical activities have a positive impact on their minds.

“From our research, Gen Z reveals that physical activity not only helps them stay physically healthy but is also an important tool for improving mental health, such as reducing stress and improving mood. This is different from Millennials who may have a different approach to managing their mental health,” said Hasna.
