Transportation Indonesian Taxi User – Survey Report by jakmin October 7, 2015 written by jakmin Indonesia is well known with their rapid growth in automotive vehicle possession. It is quite familiar to see people who have even more than one vehicle. However, public transportation such as taxi still becomes a preferable vehicle to support Indonesian mobility. At this time, Jakpat conducted a survey about Indonesian taxi user. In this survey, we asked our 194 respondents about their habit in riding taxi/cab. Our respondents are consist of 37% male and 63% female in Indonesia ten big provinces such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, South Sumatera, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, Bali, and North Sumatera. Moreover, the level of confidence in this survey is 95%, with 5% sampling error rate. Since most Indonesian is more likely to go outside using their own vehicle, we asked our respondents about their frequency of riding cab. Our respondents answered that they mostly ride a cab between once to twice a month. Their favourite destinations are home, mall and supermarket, airport and train station, also office. It is quite interesting to see their preferred time to order a cab. In general, there is no specific time for them to order a cab. They like to order a cab both in noon and morning, also in the night and afternoon. For some provinces, it is not easy to get a cab. Due to the limited number of cab, some people often experience some difficulties in ordering cab. We asked our respondents about their preferred way to hail a cab. Most respondents said that they are more likely calling taxi service, so that it is quite important for taxi companies to choose an easy to remember phone number. Waiting the cab that passes by the road also become the second most preferable way. At last, mobile application become the less preferable choice. However, due to the efficiency, most of reputable taxi company are using mobile application to easily be reached by their customers. To obtain deeper insight about Indonesian taxi customers, we also asked about their taxi back seat activity. Two popular activities are texting and just staring out the window. Besides that, talking also becomes their favourite activity. To them who ride with friends, they love to talk to their friends while riding. In the other hand, those who ride alone, talking to the taxi driver become the most preferable activity. Do Indonesian taxi customers are generous? We asked about their generosity in giving tip to the taxi driver. Surprisingly, Indonesian taxi customers are generous. Most respondents said that they give tip to the driver. We heard a lot about criminal incidents happened to the people when they were riding taxi. So, we asked about our respondents’ habit in keeping and informing detail information about the taxi they are riding. Unfortunately, most respondents said that they do not keep detail information about taxi number and the name of the driver as well as inform their loved one about it. Surprisingly, although there are criminal incidents happened and taxi customers tend to be less care about the information of the taxi, there is a hope in this industry. Most of Indonesian taxi customers are quite sure about the security of taxi as a mode of transportation. For more detail you can download XLS report at the button below. Mobile How Male and Female Use Their Instagram – Survey Report by jakmin October 5, 2015 written by jakmin According to Jakpat’s previous surveys about Instagram users in Indonesia, this mobile application is still one of the most widely used applications.[1] In general, we’ve explored how Instagram users behavior. Recently, Jakpat has conducted another survey in order to take a look further on the similarities and differences between male and female Instagram users’ behavior and preferences. This survey involved 420 respondents who are all actively using Instagram. Apparently, both male and female users are admitting that they installed Instagram in the first place to fill in their spare time. However, there is a difference in less popular reasons why male and female installed the applications. Male users tend to follow the trend, and then use it to have fun, while female users tend to have fun, and then follow the trend. After installing the application, what are they using Instagram for? As we’ve all known, Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.[2] It turns out that both male and female users mostly use Instagram for uploading or sharing photos. Following that, they use the application to search for information and inspiration. Nevertheless, again, there is a difference in less popular usage of Instagram. When male users prefer to use it for stalking other people’s account, female users prefer to use the application for online-shopping. Concurrently, about how often they access Instagram, more than a half of both male and female tend to open their Instagram account in every day. Furthermore, only a few of them who admit that they open their Instagram account only for once in a few days. Following the finding that both male and female Instagram users mostly use the application to upload or share photo, and access it every day, we would like to know how frequent they upload a photo onto the Instagram. Fascinatingly, both male and female users have a same preference about this thing. Most of them state that they only upload a photo in a particular moment. Meanwhile, there are also a few of them who admit that they only upload a photo whenever they got the most recent photo to upload. Henceforth, when asked about type of photo they usually upload onto Instagram, there are differences of preference between male and female users. For male users, three top favorite types of photo to upload are scenery, selfie, and other objects beside themselves and food, respectively. On the other hand, female users like to upload selfie photos, food, and scenery, respectively. Next, about the accounts they follow on Instagram, most of both male and female users are following their friends and acquaintances. Whereas, there is also a difference on whom they like to follow after their friends and acquaintances. When male users tend to follow the account of their family members and celebrities, female users tend to follow the account of online shops and their family members. We can leave out talking about ‘stalking’ whenever we talk about social media. Through Instagram, people can also do this ‘stalking’ activity. Apparently, it has been mentioned above that more than half of male Instagram users like to use their account to stalk people. It leads us to further exploration about their stalking habit. Both male and female users admit that they usually stalk their friends through Instagram. Furthermore, they also usually stalk the person they have a crush on. Instagram provides its users with a service that enables them to edit their photo before uploading it onto their Instagram account. When asked about the habit of editing their photo, apparently more females than males like to do that. Beside the default built-in service from Instagram itself, editing photo certainly can also be done by using several supporting features. This leads us to explore further about the supporting features used by male and female users. Many of both male and female users choose to not using any supporting features but the built-in editing feature by Instagram itself. Meanwhile, some of both male and female users prefer to use Instasize as their editing feature. However, there is a difference in what supporting features they less prefer. When male users tend to use Instapicframe, female users tend to use VSCOcam. Lastly, we would like to know about the habit of following celebrity’s Instagram account. It turns out that there are more female users than male users who follow celebrities’ Instagram account. From this survey’s result, we can see that there are actually no significant difference on Instagram users’ behavior between male and female. Differences do exist, but only in a small scale of preferences. However, we all can see that females do like online-shopping more than males. Apparently, this circumstance is also brought into the way they use Instagram. Other than that, both male and female’s habit in using Instagram have quite a lot of similarities. Health Breastfeeding Attitudes and Behavior – Survey Report by jakmin October 1, 2015 written by jakmin Breastfeeding is the main activity of a mother after giving birth. Every parent would want to give the best intake for children. Breastmilk is considered as the best intake for infants, especially 0-6 months. Therefore, exclusive breastfeeding campaign was intensively conducted. However, breastfeeding is often encounter various obstacles, both from the mother’s own internal factors or external factors, such as family or neighborhood. We also made a survey of the behavior of breastfeeding in Indonesia involving 200 women who have or are breastfeeding. Respondents that we engage in this latest survey consisted of 54.50% working mom and 45.50% stay-at-home mom . We asked this question first, we would like to see the tendencies between working mom and a stay-at-home mom. Almost all respondents stated that the best intake for babies is breastmilk. This was stated by 99% of respondents. Then we were asked whether they breastfeed their children, 97.50% admitted to breastfeed their children. While the rest (2.50%) said did not give milk for several reasons. 4 of 5 mothers who did not breastfeed say do not give it because her milk would not come out, while 1 out of 5 mothers admitted more practical giving infant formula. The benefits of breastfeeding for infant health was the main reason for mothers to breastfeed their babies (81.54%), in addition to forming close bond with children is also a reason (16:41%). Some mothers expressed save money contributed to the reason (2:05%). The majority of respondents stated feeling guilty for not breastfeeding their children, it is said by 93.33% of respondents. While the rest, admitted not guilty. Breastfeeding is certainly requires a commitment for mothers to be close to his son. It is a challenge for mothers, especially working mothers. In this survey, we get a slight difference in habits between working mom and stay-at-home mom. Percentage of stay-at-home mom who breastfeed their children live more than the working mom. Almost every working mom admitted to sometimes provide breast milk to their children using a bottle. Breastfeeding in public is often a challenge also for mothers, especially in Indonesia where nursing room is not always available in public places. Therefore, we also try to ask their opinion about breastfeeding in public. More than half of the respondents said breastfeeding in public is natural (57.44%), there is also that states are unavoidable (25.64%), while others said it was wrong (12%). In addition to the challenges of breastfeeding in public, we were asked what the most challenging during lactation. Commitment to always be close to the child turned out to be chosen respondents as the main challenge of feeding (26.67%). Moreover, waking up at night into the second rank (21:03%). Attempts to eat certain foods so that her breast milk stays out, is also a challenge for the mothers (17.95%). The pain of it was in the fourth position. In Indonesia, nursing room may not always be found in a public place. Therefore, breast-feeding in public is a challenge for mothers as we discussed above. We also asked the respondents chose the most challenging public places for breastfeeding. Turned out mall is the most challenging for the majority of respondents to breastfeed in public (45.64%) For more detail you can download XLS report at the button below. Mobile Meeting: Face to Face VS Online Video Call – Survey Report by jakmin September 30, 2015 written by jakmin New media and technology has taken human’s life into an advance condition of society. It has become a significant part that supports people’s activities, not only in basic activities of our daily lives but also in work-related activities. Particularly, in the way people communicate to one another. The emergence of new media has provided a new way for people to communicate. Furthermore, in terms of work-related activities, new media has enabled workers to carry out a new form of having a meeting: via online video call. Some companies in Indonesia have worked this way, especially when the meetings involve several parties which spread in various areas across the country. Recently, Jakpat has conducted a survey related to the way workers in Indonesia have their meetings done. We would like to see which one they prefer more nowadays, face-to-face meeting or meeting via online video call. The survey involved 300 workers aged 23-48 in 10 big cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Bali, and Yogyakarta. From 300 workers we surveyed, we found that only 30% of them have ever had meetings via online video call, with 73% admitted that they were having difficulties during meeting via online video call. In addition, many workers who have done meetings via online video call are in the youngster’s age group among 23-29 year-old, and currently live on the main island of Indonesia, Java. When asked about the difficulties they have ever had while doing meetings via online video call, they stated that those difficulties were including slow internet connection (91%), confusing disorganized voices or voice distortion (35%), and high risk of misunderstanding caused by the chaos (24%). Indeed, new media and technology not only comes with all glory, but also brings some side effects with it. However, 68% of workers, whether they have had meetings via online video call or have not, agreed that meetings via online video call has some advantages compared to face-to-face meetings. Those advantages were including saving transportation cost (78%) and time (60%). Moreover, 60% agreed that meeting via online video call is more practical than face-to-face meeting. Next question is, how about the media platform workers used to organize meeting via online video call? Most of them (83%) said that Skype is the most widely used media, while the less popular ones are LINE (26%) and Yahoo! Messenger (20%). Meanwhile, there were 70% of workers who have never had meetings via online video call, therefore the only form of meeting they have ever had is face-to-face meeting. Following this, only 22% of workers admitted that they were having difficulties during face-to-face meetings. When asked about what kind of difficulties they could possibly have during a face-to-face meeting, they stated that those difficulties were including punctuality problem (70%), traffic jam issue (34%), and also, a few of them (18%) admitted that they usually find it difficult to concentrate during a face-to-face meeting due to tiredness at work. Indeed, face-to-face meeting is taking more energy than meeting via online video call. Besides, punctuality has been a fundamental problem for Indonesians for a long time. Could online video call be the solution for that kind of problem? This still needs further exploration. Interestingly, most of workers (92%) agreed that a face-to-face meeting has more benefits compared to meeting via online video call. They were stating that the main benefit of a face-to-face meeting is that this form of meeting has lower risk of misunderstanding (84%) than a mediated meeting via online video call. Concurrently, they were also saying that a face-to-face meeting is more organized (58%) and more practical (15%) than meeting via online video call. Apparently, most of Indonesian workers are still comfortable to do their meetings in an old-fashioned way. This way they think they can immediately solve any kinds of misunderstanding appeared during meetings. Even for workers who have already had mediated meetings via online call, it’s found that most of them (95%) agreed that a face-to-face meeting brings more advantages than meeting via online video call. Hence, most of workers (82%) nowadays still think that a face-to-face meeting is way more effective than mediated meeting via online video call. For them who have already experienced meeting via online video call, most of them (83%) admitted that their reason for choosing a face-to-face meeting is because of the difficulties they got during a mediated meeting. Furthermore, almost all workers (97%) admitted that their current working place also prefers a face-to-face meeting to mediated meeting via online video call. This indicates that even in a digital world nowadays, there are many companies in Indonesia which still rely on a face-to-face form of communication rather than the mediated ones. Lastly, when asked about their preferences if they were in a decision maker position in their office, most of workers (89%) stated that they would choose a face-to-face meeting over a mediated meeting, particularly via online video call. As long as it can be done by a face-to-face meeting, they don’t find it necessary to have a mediated meeting via online video call. Whether it’s the difficulties that technology brings despite all of its benefits, or the advantages of a face-to-face meeting that can’t be provided by new media, Indonesian workers nowadays still prefer to do a face-to-face meeting. Mobile Indonesian Video Call Habit – Survey Report by jakmin September 29, 2015 written by jakmin Years ago, it would be extremely hard to communicate with our loved one when we were physically separated. You were only be able to communicate using mail or fixed line telephone that cost very much. When it came to the texting era, SMS became the more affordable choice to stay connected. However, today’s digital world has revolutionized the way of human communication. Today, we can easily communicate with our loved one, not only by calling or texting but video calling. Jakpat conducted a survey regarding youth Indonesian video call habit. We asked our 307 respondents, male and female from the age range of 18-35 year old. With the confidence level of 95%, we collected the data from our panel of respondents in nationwide scale. Video call becomes the new communication channel that quickly attracts public attentions. Surprisingly, though smartphone and mobile data penetration in Indonesia are categorized as high, but Indonesian video call habit remains low. Most Indonesian only use video call feature less than once a month. Video call was considered as an expensive way to communicate. It needs to be connected with internet mobile data connection which was quite expensive. However, since the mobile data connection package become even more affordable, video call become more popular than before. There are numbers of application that allow us to make video call, but popular applications to make video call among Indonesia are only dominated by two platforms. LINE becomes the most popular application to video call, due to its ubiquitous and easy operationalization. Furthermore, Skype took the second place. We ask our respondents about the people they are video calling most often. As predicted, they are more likely to call their loved one. At the second position, they are video call with their friends. Family become the third place of video calling habit. While, at the last position is their working buddy. Concerning their favourite time to video call, our respondents answer that they are most likely to make video call at night, just before sleeping. Besides video calling at night, they also love to video calling at afternoon, after their working and school activities. At last, they are less likely to make video call at noon, on lunch time. Surprising fact is found when we ask about respondents’ preparation process before video calling. Though most of them answer that they do not make any specific preparation, but in fact, they actually did. Four out of ten people admit that they are looking for better lighting before a call. Regarding the issue of preparation process before video calling, our male and female respondents also show different attitudes. In general, male respondent tend to change their clothes and move to another room to make video call. In other hand, female respondent tend to style their hair, look in the mirror, and check the background before video calling. Moreover, they need about 1-5 minutes to be ready just before video calling. When we ask about the process of video calling, our respondent admits that their average duration of calling is less than 10 minutes. However, it is still considered as a short time for having video call. At last, mobile data network quality is considered as the most important aspect during video call. Although video call can offer us a rich experience of communication by talking while seeing at the same time, it is still considered as less interesting than instant messaging. Instant messaging is considered as the most interesting communication channel for Indonesian, while video call is just placed at the second. On the following position is phone call and SMS. Our final question is aimed to understand Indonesian behavioural intention of choosing their communication tools. We ask to our respondents their preference between video and phone call if both has the same quality and price. As predicted, our respondent strongly admit that they will use video call feature more often in the future if it is as easy and cheap as phone call. Health Sleep Survey Report by jakmin September 28, 2015 written by jakmin With only 24 hours in a day, it seems that there is so much to do and so little time. Each day is filled with different activities and appointments; whether that is work, school or taking care of the family, people lead busy lives that tend to start early in the morning and end late at night. The big question then is – with everything tobogan acuatico hinchable going on, how much sleep can one actually get? We asked people between the ages of 18 and 39 to figure out what their sleeping habits are. This survey includes the results from 502 respondents. In general, we are told that we should get 8 hours of sleep inflatable each night. From our survey, 62.15% agree with that. However, only 18.73% from our pool actually get 8 hours of sleep. The reality is that most young people do not get that much sleep. Rather, the majority get between 6-7 hours. When asked if they get enough sleep, less than two-thirds agreed. Of those who agreed, the majority got at least 7 hours. Those who felt that they do not sleep enough typically got 5-6 hours. Even with so many things going on, it is rare for people to stop and take a break with a short nap. More than 40% say they rarely nap, and almost 20% say they never nap. However, it is not so much the number of hours of sleep that only counts. It is also the quality of sleep. When asked about their sleep quality, only a little more than half rated it is “satisfactory.” A significant number (42.23%) rated it as poor. To break it down further, those who get enough sleep are likelier to rate it as satisfactory. On the other hand, those who did not get enough sleep were likelier to rate their sleep quality as poor. Personal Student Survey Report 2015: Future is Coming by jakmin September 25, 2015 written by jakmin A new semester of college has just begun in Indonesia. Universities are full of freshmen who had just finished their orientation, as well as sophomores, juniors, and seniors who had just come back from their holidays. Jakpat recently held a survey to see what those college students are thinking about the future they will face once they graduate. This survey involved 250 college students in Indonesia, particularly who study in the main island, Java, where most of top universities in this country are located. We would like to understand what drives career decisions amongst Indonesia’s graduate talent and how they see their upcoming future. Apparently, most of college students (85%) have already known what profession and which industry they want to work in once they graduate. Furthermore, 8 out of 10 students (82%) admit that they are currently taking their majors according to industry or profession they want to work in after graduating. About industry, there are found top 4 of most desirable industries by Indonesian college students: finance and banking (29%), technology and automotive (28%), professional services (24%), education and research (17%). Technology and automotive sector is the most popular industry among male students (44%), with finance sector (26%) and professional service (22%) follow behind. Meanwhile, finance and banking sector is the top-of-mind industry for female students (33%), followed by professional services at second place (25%) and education at third (21%). Henceforth, when asked about which industry is likely to be most successful over the next 10 years, the top 4 students’ choices are: technology and automotive (44%), finance and banking (32%), professional services (26%), and tourism (23%). Again, male students are rooting for technology sector the most (51%), while surprisingly, female students are mostly divided into technology sector (38%) and finance sector (36%). About the nation’s economic condition, 7 out of 10 students (75%) think that the economic instability will make it harder to find a job. As a developing country, Indonesia is still in a state of economic development, which resulting in the instability of the economic condition. Apparently some students are bothered by this situation, particularly when it comes to ‘find a job’ issues. Besides, Indonesia has been hit several times by financial crisis, which resulting in many people left jobless or got fired from their company. Consequently, it’s natural when most of the students (77%) feel worry about another financial crisis happening while they are in the workforce. They feel anxious whether the financial crisis would affect their career. About the career decision, only more than half students (59%) are willing to relocate regularly for the right job. Simultaneously, also more than half students (67%) think that it is likely they will stay with the same company for their entire career. These are indicating that Indonesian students tend to look for stability when it comes to career decision. They are willing to regularly move from city to city as long as it is under the same company they’ve been working in. However, most of them (74%) admit that they expect to leave the country someday if they were offered for a job abroad. This still need another lookout about the reason why most of them want to work outside the country. Nevertheless, this indicates that many Indonesian students prefer working abroad to working in their own country. About the future company, more than half students are stating that they want to work whether in a state-owned enterprise (59%) or a multi-national private company (53%). Concurrently, less popular choice is national private company (30%). Whereas, there are 2 out of 10 students (24%) who choose to be entrepreneurs rather than to work for a certain company in the future. Furthermore, when asked about their reasons in choosing a company, most of them (76%) say that career opportunity is the most important factor, while the other factors are salary offered (59%), working environment (52%), and professional challenges (34%). Moreover about the company students want to work for in the future, approximately 67% of them want the company that provides opportunities for its employees to enhance their proficiency. Instead of only working and giving benefits for the company, they also would like to gain something in return from the company, not only in a form of salary, but also enhancement in their personal skills and abilities. About 70% of students also want the institution they work for in the future to contribute in making a better world. Simultaneously, almost all students (98%) want the work they do in the future to drive positive and sustainable change in society. At this point, it’s relevant with previous finding about what factor that determines students to choose their future company. They’re not merely thinking about salary offered, but also giving consideration more towards career opportunities and the company’s vision and mission. Lastly, almost all students (98%) agree that having an extensive global network would help to build a good career. With the implementation of ASEAN Economic Community this year, Indonesian students not only get a chance to expand their opportunities, but also have to face a more advance challenge, since they will compete with not only among Indonesia’s graduate, but also all of ASEAN countries’ graduate. This is inevitable and the students must prepare for their upcoming future. From this survey we can see that Indonesian students have already been aware of this chances and challenges they’re about to face when they graduate. It affects them in the career decision, indeed. Thus, it’s important for the students to recognize their potential in order to suit themselves with certain industry or profession they would like to work in the future.
