E-commerceMarketingMobile SME Readiness for Mobile – Survey Report by jakmin September 23, 2015 written by jakmin Small Medium Enterprise (SME) is one of the fastest growing sectors in our economy system. The growth is indicated by numbers of SME players that is consistently growing each year. The adoption of social media also becomes significant factor affecting the growth of SME. Only by using their smartphone device, they can easily sell products to netizen by using their social media account for free. However, using social media as their only marketplace is not enough. To be able to competitively compete with bigger enterprises, SME players should be able to improve their quality using mobile technology. Thus, this study is aimed to map the SME readiness for mobile. We have surveyed 100 respondents who have online shop and actively have any transactions with their customer every day. The scale of our survey is nationwide with the range of age as 17-45 years old, and the composition of respondents as 38% male and 62% female. Moreover, in this study, SME refers to the small-medium scale enterprise that has less than 100 employees. As we previously mentioned, the composition of respondent in this study is dominated by female. The domination is considered as logical since Indonesian SME is mostly owned by female in the age of 20-25 years old. Besides being famous of their “shopaholic”, female also actively earn by their entrepreneurship activities. Regarding the location of the SME online shop, Java Island is still considered as the main area of their business. Most SME online shop is located in West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java. The expensive cost of the shipping fee from outside Java is considered as an important factor to understand this phenomenon. Instead of selling and shipping their products from the outside Java, they tend to sell their products in online shop by drop ship basis. Regarding their choices of place to sell their products, most respondent choose Facebook, online marketplace (i.e. Blibli, Tokopedia, Kaskus, Berrybenka, etc.), and Instagram. However, there is significant difference between male and female SME owners regarding their chosen medium to sell. Male SME owners tend to sell their products in online marketplace and Facebook, while female SME owners tend to sell their products in Facebook and Instagram. Differences between male and female SME owners also could be found in their tendency of selling products. Male SME owners mostly sell gadget, while female SME owners mostly sell fashion products. Regarding their chosen medium to communicate with customers, numbers of instant messaging applications become the most favourite channel. They mostly communicate using BBM, WhatsApp, LINE, SMS, and Facebook Messenger. Interestingly, male SME owners tend to be finer with phone calling with their customers, while female SME owners are not. Concerning the number of employment as the basic characteristic of SME, we asked our respondents about their employee. Surprisingly, Indonesian SME owners tend to do all the works by themselves. Most of the SME owners do not have any employee, while only few of them have less than ten employees. Understanding SME readiness about mobile could also be explored by asking them about their medium to sell product besides social media. Sadly, only 6% of SME owners have website for their own store and most of them are men. Lack numbers of SME who have their own website or application is caused by several challenges. For female SME owners, limited budget to build the website or application is considered as the main challenge. In other hand, though SME website mostly owned by male, but they tend to consider website or application for their store as unimportant. Although male SME owners tend to consider that having website as unimportant, but both male and female SME owners ever want to have website for their own shop in the future. They are strongly believe that having website can positively contribute to their business activities. They believe that investing in website could enhance their representativeness and trustworthiness. Having website also enables them to handle transaction easily. At last, they want to attract more customers by having website for their own. Our final question asked about the most important feature if SME owners have website or application for their stores. Surprisingly, the consideration between male and female SME owners once again shows any differences. Male SME owners consider online payment, shopping cart, and chat with customer as the most important features. In other hand, female SME owners consider chat with customer, shopping cart, and online payment as important. For more detail you can download XLS report at the button below. Financial Millennial Money Mindset – Survey Report by jakmin September 21, 2015 written by jakmin As we know that Millennials currently at the peak of their productive age. Therefore, all things related to the Millennials interesting to study. In this survey, I tried to figure out how Millenials view of the state of their finances. The survey involved 415 respondents, 24-35 years old, female and male, single and married in 7 major cities in Indonesia. 68.67% of respondents declared financially independent. Both respondents who are married or single, both showed a tendency to be financially independent. When we asked respondents to compare their financial situation with friends of their generation, the majority of respondents feel they are at the same level (51.57%). Our millennial respondents said they will save money if there is money left on the payroll. While respondents who will spend it only 8.19% of them. In this survey, marital status indicate different tendecy in financial situation. One difference is the debt ownership. The majority of respondents who are married, whether they have children or don’t claimed to have a debt that must be paid regularly. While respondents were still single, the majority said they had no debt. This clearly shows that changes in the status of domestic demand much greater needs, so many things that need to be purchased or held by way of debt. Then we asked further what debt owned by the respondent. The top chosen answer is a vehicle loan. There was also a loan from family and home loans. To cover the needs, sometimes someone needs to borrow money. These loans can be obtained from various parties, one of which is the family / relatives. We also asked respondents whether they had ever borrowed money from parents / family / relatives to cover expenses, the majority of respondents also said they had borrowed (67.47%). Saving was considered important by the majority of respondents. This is indicated by the approval of a majority of the respondents, that they regularly save (73.73%). But more than half of respondents admitted to never do an evaluation of the expenditure of every end of the month. Two things are equally well stated by respondents who are single or married. When we asked respondents to choose, which one is more important to them, having a home or nice vehicle. Almost all respondents said the home is more important than a great vehicle. It is also equally expressed by the respondents are single or married. Different trends between single and married is shown in terms of investment. When we asked whether respondents do certain investments. The majority of respondents who are married either already had children or not yet admitted to invest, while most of respondents who still single admitted to not do any investment. This shows that when a person has a family, long-term financial plan thoughtful, unlike the single. We also asked respondents who have made investments, what kind of investment they choose. Apparently, gold has been chosen to be an investment. Gold may have been because the price is relatively stable and not complicated to do. With so many location-based apps nowadays, Jakpat has conducted a survey to see consumer preferences toward it. The respondents are Indonesian citizens, as a developing country with high rate of internet penetration (29% of the population, with accessing social media being the highest activity[1]), particularly the youth, as the age class majority of smartphone users. This survey involved 250 respondents aged 16-30 year-old living across the country in particular 10 big cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Medan, Makassar, Denpasar, Palembang, and Balikpapan, with approximately 50:50 ratio between male and female respondents. Results from the survey reveal that 7 out of 10 people (74%) are feeling comfortable to share their location through the location-based apps. However, only 5 out of 10 people (55%) admit that they feel happy after sharing their location information. Following that, there are five most popular location-based apps among Indonesian youngsters, as we can see in the infographic below. Furthermore, all Google’s location-based apps are more popular with men than women (45% VS 35%), while more women than men prefer using Instagram (80% VS 78%), Facebook (80% VS 76%), and Path (66% VS 53%). Facebook is the most popular location-based apps among the age group between 26-30 year-old (91%), while among the younger age group, Instagram is the most popular one with 81% among 20-25 year-old and 83% among 16-19 year-old. So, what is the reason behind respondents’ decision to install location-based apps? Meanwhile, others admit that they downloaded the apps just for fun and to keep them occupied during their spare time (30%), and also, to follow the trend, since people around them are also installing the apps (21%). Basically, people were motivated to install the apps for their own good and satisfaction. From those installing location-based apps because of its advantages, there were found that more men than women were rooting for this reason (52% VS 46%). On the other hand, more women than men were found installing location-based apps in order to spend their leisure time (32% VS 28%) and to keep it up with the current trends (22% VS 20%). Less popular usages of location-based apps are for getting special deal or offer (27%) and for checking public transportation (26%). With their reasonable choices to install location-based apps and several advantageous usages, it’s found that 7 out of 10 people (75%) admit that they don’t have concern regarding on who they would trust the most and the least with their location information. It’s neither the government, applications provider, nor the network operators. However, it’s also revealed that more than half people (60%) still have concerns regarding on the activity of sharing their location details through the apps. What are those concerns? We can find it on the infographic below. When asked about what concerns they have regarding on sharing their location information via location-based apps, most of them said that it’s regarding on security (75%) and privacy (73%) issues. Other things that bother them in sharing their location details are whether the information could be shared without permission (32%), and also those spams and unwanted advertisements they could frequently received (29%). Women are more likely than men to feel insecure about their security (80% VS 70%) and privacy (79% VS 68%) issues. E-commerceLifestyle Food Delivery Habit – Survey Report by jakmin September 16, 2015 written by jakmin Did you ever want to have a good food but too lazy to go out? Well, I did. I guess it also happened to the people out there, and perhaps even you do too. Most of the time, food delivery service become the quick and smart solution to overcome this problem. No matter what kind of reason you were having (be it too busy or too lazy), food delivery service still become the ultimate choice. Understanding this phenomenon, Jakpat just did a survey to our panel of respondents. We surveyed 300 respondents from ten big cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan, North Sumatera, South Sumatera, South Sulawesi, and Bali. Our respondents consist of 48% male and 52% female in the age of 16-35 years old.As we previously explained, there is several reason of using food delivery service. We ask our respondents about their reason of delivery and most of them consider food delivery service as more practical. Moreover, the lack of free times also becomes the reason of choosing this service. Our respondents acknowledge that they choose to have delivery service since they do not have any spare times to go to the restaurant and cook. Concerning respondents’ lack of time to cook or going to the restaurant, we ask them about their favourite time to order food delivery service. Most respondents answer that they would like to order foods for dinner at the first place and for lunch at the second place. Surprisingly, most respondents tend to order food delivery service on weekend. Relating this finding to our previous data about respondents’ lack of time, it could be assumed that respondents are more likely to have some rest at the weekend and spoiling themselves with good food without worry of spending their times to cook or go to the restaurants. Regarding the destination of delivering, most respondents’ answer that they are more likely to deliver their food to home. Office becomes the second choice of destination. Today food delivery service is not only be served by restaurant, but also from some public vendors such as Makandiantar, Klik-eat, Foodpanda, or Kulineran who serve food delivery service from various restaurants. We ask our respondent s about their preference of delivery channel. 80% of our respondents acknowledge that they are more like to order foods from restaurants’ own delivery service than public food delivery vendors. Understanding that our respondents are more likely to directly order food delivery service from restaurants instead of public vendor, then it becomes very important to understand their preference of communication channel in contacting the restaurants. Most of our respondents answer that they are more likely to call restaurants’ delivery phone number to order their foods. Therefore, it becomes very reasonable when restaurants are trying to create their “unique” hotline or phone number so that consumer can remember it easily. Besides calling the restaurants, our respondents also would like to do online order in restaurants’ website and applications. At the last position, respondents would like to contact restaurants’ instant messaging ID to order food delivery service. To completely understand our respondents’ food delivery habit, we also ask about their favourite foods to be delivered. The most favourite is Western food. Indonesian food is considered as the second place. The third is Chinese food. The next place is taken by Japanese food. And the last position is taken by snack. Understanding food delivery habit as part of consumer behaviour study takes selection of the channel as a considerable concept. We ask our respondents about factor affecting their decision in choosing food delivery service. Most of respondents answer that they liking towards the menu become the ultimate reason of choosing which restaurant they will order. Their second consideration is the quickness of delivery service, while the next are restaurant provide online order service and their phone number is easy to be remembered. Although almost our entire respondent considers food delivery as a beneficial service, they also find some difficulties regarding it. However, there are different problems faced by our male and female respondents. 59% of our male respondent find the time and cash payment as their ultimate problems. They find it difficult when the courier does not bring the change for their cash payment. Different problems are faced by our female respondents. 71% of our female respondents find the time and explaining their address to the courier who deliver their food as a tiring process. However, both male and female respondents put the “taking long time to deliver my foods” as the main and most common problem in food delivery service.
